With good rains having refreshed the course a field of 57 players competed for the 2 Person Ambrose event, players also vying for the Phyllis Starr “tin cup”, a trophy presented quarterly by our eldest veteran golfer, Tim Starr, in memory of his late wife Phyllis. Winners on the day were Neal Watson and Kevin Dukes with a fine sub par round of 29.5. Runners up were Steve Gardner and Andrew Gordon on 30.25, beating home Barry Hoban and Lance Shadbolt on 31.5, and Warren Hodder and Herb Muriwai on 31.75. Balls or chocolates were won by Teri and Steve Swanbury on 32, newcomers Kevin and Jenny Reilly on 32, Bruce Martin and Leonie Snodgrass with 32.27 (parring the course off the stick), Solveig Olsson and Ken Brown on 32.75, and finally Shirley and Ted Quinlan on 33.5.

Jeanette Miller and Chris Birks took out the Bradman award, finding it difficult in the damp conditions with little or no run on the ball to get the distances required. Nearest the pins were won by Steve Gardner on the 4th, Leonie Snodgrass on the 6th, and Shirley and Ted Quinlan on the 7th. Leonie Snodgrass capped off a good day by taking out the Accuracy drive in addition to her other prizes.
