  • Vets Golf Coloured Ball Team Stableford

    Golfers were fortunate that only light rain fell for a few holes when 56 players battled for the Coloured Ball Team Stableford competition this week. Winning team on the day comprised two husband and wife pairings, Ron and Sandra Hanlon partnering Paul and Robin Green with a team score of 48 points. They were followed home by Michael Kermode, Graham Moore, Des Jackson and David Williams on 47, Greg Thornton, Richard Kelly, Rick Brake and Barry Hoban on 46, and finally Lance Shadbolt, Jennifer Gray, Paul Pereira and Frank Pomfret on 45.

    Bradman award winners this week was the team comprising Neal Watson, Greg Smith, Neil Mather and Ross Davidson. Nearest the pins were won by Ron Lunt on the 4th hole with a hole in one, Des Jackson on the 6th, and Sandra Hanlon and Frank Pomfret on the 7th. This week’s Accuracy drive was won by Leonie Snodgrass.

  • Vets Golf Special Par

    Fifty players entered the Special Par event, a modified version of a standard Par game, where players are rewarded with multiple plusses for scores below handicap. Winner on the day was newcomer Ted Quinlan with a great score of +6 for 9 holes. Ted was followed home by Ross Davidson and Graham Pratt on +5, and Kay McLeod on +4. Balls or chocolates went to Len Rogers, Wal Williams and Allen Lee also on +4, Tony Crook, John Cox, Michael Godford and Jeanette Miller on +3, and finally Tim Starr, Sandra Hanlon and Greg Smith on +2.

    This week’s Bradman award went to Jennifer Gray, whilst Nearest the Pins were taken out by Ron Hanlon on the 4th, Shirley Quinlan on the 6th, and Kathy Crossling and Steve Swanbury on the 7th. The Accuracy drive was won by Lyn Benger.

    Despite the heavy rains and course closure the day before, the sun came out to dry the course allowing 58 players to enter for today’s Stableford event, the game also being the first of three rounds for the Elaine Jennings trophy for lady players. Don Russell took out the honours on the day with a fine score of 21 points. He was followed home by Teri Swanbury and Robert McKirdy on 20 and Neal Watson on 18 following a six way count back for fourth place. Balls or chocolates went to Greg Smith, Bruce Ware, Annette Manton, Rick Brake and Les Johanson on 18, Ray Downey, Kevin Dukes, John Cox and Herb Muriwai on 17, and finally Paul Pereira, Leonie Snodgrass, Alan McLeod and Ian Wratten all on 16.

    The Bradman award was taken out by an out of form Len Rogers. Nearest the Pins went to Steve Swanbury on the 4th, Ian Manton on the 6th, and Leonie Snodgrass and Greg Smith on the 7th, with the Accuracy drive on the 5th being won by Ross Hendy.

Vets Golf Program 2018

The Vets Golf Program for 2018 is now available monthly under the Golf Programme Sporting Club Events and Results. A copy is also on display at the Country Club on the Vets Golf notice board on the Ground Floor.

Vets Golf Special Events for 2018:

Elaine Jennings’ Ladies Trophy Rounds 1, 2 and 3 Stableford on 28 March, 11 April and 2 May.

Far South Coast Veteran Golfers Association (FSCVGA) Tuross event on 29 June 2018.

CHAMPIONSHIPS 1 & 2 – Club Championships Rounds
22 August and 12 September – Stroke & Putts.

Other important dates to note:

15 August – Annual General Meeting

12 December – Christmas Party / 4 Person Ambrose

Vets Golf

Vets Golf at Tuross is open to anyone over 50 years young! Our primary objective is to provide a social game of golf for players of all standards in a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere.

Play every Wednesday morning for 9 holes. Registration times are as follows:
a. Between 1 September and 31 May: 7.45am for an 8.30am shotgun start.
b. Between 1 June and 31 August: 8.15am for a 9.00am shotgun start.

For the 2017 winter period, players voted to remain with the times shown at a. above as a trial subject to review before the winter period 2018.

Vets Golf at Tuross use a unique handicapping system for their own events, so if you do not have an official handicap we will give you one for the day.

During the Christmas/New Year period we welcome Visitors of all ages and all players are eligible to win prizes on the day.

Entry Fee for Vets Golf varies (Members, Visitors, Juniors etc). Please contact the Vets Golf Club Captain (Ian Miller) for details or call in to the Country Club.

Average numbers of players each Wednesday is around 60. If you’re up for it please come along and join us on a Vets morning for some golf, fun & laughs!!
