  • Vets Golf 2 Person Team Stableford Multiplier

    A smaller than normal field of 47 players teed of for this morning’s 2 Person Team Stableford Multiplier event, a game requiring each player to score on every hole in order to maximise the team score overall. Results on the day were as follows:

    1st: Steve and Teri Swanbury with a good score of 43 points.

    2nd: Michael Godford and Don Russell on 40 points.

    3rd: Henry Anderson and David Williams with 36 points.

    4th: Greg Thornton and Richard Kelly on 30 points.

    Ball or Chocolate:

    Ross and Gayle Macalpine together with Leigh Edwards and Michael Kermode on 24, and finally Rick Brake and Rob Nash on 23.

    Bradman Award:

    Having played 18 holes in a charity game only the day before, two of our more senior players in Tim Starr and Les Johanson struggled to combine as a team and took out the award this week.

    Nearest the Pins:

    4th: Kevin Dukes.

    6th: Chris Wratten.

    Ladies 7th: Teri Swanbury.

    Men’s 7th: Frank Pomfret.

    Accuracy:

    Greg Smith hit a fine straight drive down the 5th fairway to take out this week’s accuracy award.

    Next Week:

    Next week’s event is a Stroke and Putts game, and also the second and final round of the Tuross Vets Championships for 2018. Registration is from 7.45am in the downstairs sports bar area with a shotgun start at 8.30am.

  • Vets Golf Stroke & Putts – Championship Round 2

    On what was a beautifully warm morning a strong field of 59 players registered for this morning’s Stroke and Putts event, the game also being the second and final round of the Vets championships for 2018. Results on the day were as follows:

    1st: Noel Downie returning to form with a fine nett 27.

    2nd: Mike Birks with a nett 29 on count back.

    3rd: Bruce Ware, also with a nett 29.

    4th: Herb  Muriwai on 33 on count back.

    Ball or Chocolate:

    Frank Pomfret and Paul Pereira on 33, Tony Crook, Noel Fletcher, Robin Green and Neal Watson on 34, Kevin Dukes, Michael Kermode, Marcel Kors and Annette Manton on 35, and finally Greg Smith, David Williams, Richard Kelly and Gayle Macalpine on 36.

    Putts:

    Len Rogers won the putting competition with a low score of 13 putts for the nine holes.

    Bradman Award:

    Rob Nash experienced a bad day and was the clear winner of the infamous award this week.

    Nearest the Pins:

    4th: Kevin Dukes, in the hole.

    6th: David Williams.

    Ladies 7th: Annette Manton.

    Men’s 7th: Ken Brown.

    Des Jackson was this week’s winner.

    With the weather turning for the better a good field of 59 players registered for today’s Single Stableford event. Results on the day were as follows:

    1st: Wal Williams with a fine score of 24 points.

    2nd: Greg Smith on 22.

    3rd: Terry Lunn with 20 points on count back.

    4th: Steve Johnston also on 20 points and again on count back.

    Ball or Chocolate:

    Paul Green on 20, Jeanette Miller and Alan Lee on 19, Teri Swanbury, Noel Fletcher, Gail Rogers, Lyn Benger, Kay McLeod, Greg Thornton and Warren Hodder all on 18 points.

    Bradman Award:

    A two way count back was required to determine this week’s winner of the infamous award, but in the end Gayle Macalpine edged out Noel Downie.

    Nearest the Pins:

    4th: Greg Smith.

    6th: Terry Lunn.

    Ladies 7th: Jeanette Miller.

    Men’s 7th: Wal Williams.

    Accuracy:

    Solveig Olsson received generous applause from the post match gathering for one of her rare accuracy wins today.

    Next week’s game will be a Par event with registration in the downstairs sports bar area from 7.45am and a shotgun start at 8.30am.

Vets Golf Program 2018

The Vets Golf Program for 2018 is now available monthly under the Golf Programme Sporting Club Events and Results. A copy is also on display at the Country Club on the Vets Golf notice board on the Ground Floor.

Vets Golf Special Events for 2018:

Elaine Jennings’ Ladies Trophy Rounds 1, 2 and 3 Stableford on 28 March, 11 April and 2 May.

Far South Coast Veteran Golfers Association (FSCVGA) Tuross event on 29 June 2018.

CHAMPIONSHIPS 1 & 2 – Club Championships Rounds
22 August and 12 September – Stroke & Putts.

Other important dates to note:

15 August – Annual General Meeting

12 December – Christmas Party / 4 Person Ambrose

Vets Golf

Vets Golf at Tuross is open to anyone over 50 years young! Our primary objective is to provide a social game of golf for players of all standards in a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere.

Play every Wednesday morning for 9 holes. Registration times are as follows:
a. Between 1 September and 31 May: 7.45am for an 8.30am shotgun start.
b. Between 1 June and 31 August: 8.15am for a 9.00am shotgun start.

For the 2017 winter period, players voted to remain with the times shown at a. above as a trial subject to review before the winter period 2018.

Vets Golf at Tuross use a unique handicapping system for their own events, so if you do not have an official handicap we will give you one for the day.

During the Christmas/New Year period we welcome Visitors of all ages and all players are eligible to win prizes on the day.

Entry Fee for Vets Golf varies (Members, Visitors, Juniors etc). Please contact the Vets Golf Club Captain (Ian Miller) for details or call in to the Country Club.

Average numbers of players each Wednesday is around 60. If you’re up for it please come along and join us on a Vets morning for some golf, fun & laughs!!
