  • Vets Golf Canadian Foursomes
    All day
    07/08/2019

A field of 54 players teed off for our once a year Canadian Foursomes event. Winners on the day were husband and wife pairing Bruce and Ann Ware with a score of 34.12 strokes. They were followed home by the teams of Greg Smith and Neal Watson on 34.875, Greg Thornton and Barry Hoban on 35.87, and finally Len and Gail Rogers on 36.25. Balls or chocolates went to Ken Brown and Noel Downie on 37.125, Greg Ware and Terry Challender on 37.875, Dorothy Madden and Bruce Martin on 38.5, Paul and Robin Green on 39.0, and Shirley and Ted Quinlan on 39.12.

The Bradman, or encouragement award as it is more politely called, went to Ross Davidson and Neil Mather, whilst nearest the pins were won by Derek Hoare on both the 4th and 6th holes, and Jennifer Gray and Ian Manton on the 7th. Herb Muriwai hit a shortish but very accurate drive on the 5th hole to take out the Accuracy drive.

A good field of 57 players registered for the Single Stableford event. Winner on the day was Rob McKirdy with a great score of 23 points ( a fact noted by the Vets handicapper!). Rob beat home Les Thompson on 21, and Herb Muriwai from Terry Lunn on 21 points on count back. Balls or chocolates went to Kathy Crossling on 19, Lyn Benger, Derek Hoare and Tim Starr on 18, Greg Smith, Ray Downey and Annette Manton on 17, and the final grouping of Steve Swanbury, Neal Watson, Shirley and Ted Quinlan, Bruce Ware, Jennifer Gray and Patrick McNeile all on 16.

Barry Hoban was this week’s unfortunate winner of the Bradman award on count back. Nearest the pins were won by Herb Muriwai on the 4th, Jennifer Gray on the 6th, and Teri Swanbury and Bruce Ware on the 7th. Kathy Crossling capped off a good day by also taking out the Accuracy drive award.
