  • Vets Golf Stableford

    A large field of 68 players, including 9 lady visitors from Camden, Shoalhaven Heads and Mollymook clubs, registered for the Single Stableford event, the game also being round 3 of the Elaine Jennings trophy for lady players. Winner on the day was Neil Mather with a fine score of 24 points. He was followed home in order and on count back by Lance Shadbolt, Noel Fletcher and Ian Miller, all with 22 points. Balls or chocolates were won by Steve Collins on 21, Paul Green on 20, Wal Williams, Noel Downie and Allen Lee on 19, Rosemary Hoare, Ray Downey, Chris Wratten, Peter Macdonald and Ken Brown on 18, and finally Lyn Benger, Ross Hendy, Stephen Crossling, Terry Challender, Ross Davidson, David Williams and Tim Starr all with 17.

    The infamous Bradman award was won by a newcomer to Vets Golf, Greg Bush, who suffered at the hands of the handicapper on his first game! Nearest the pins went to one of our lady visitors, Kerry Cahill on the 4th, Andrew Gordon on the 6th, and another visitor Kathleen Bull and our own Ken Brown on the 7th. Annette Manton took out the Accuracy drive on the 5th.

  • Vets Golf 2 Person Ambrose

    With a number of regular Vets golfers away for the week a smaller than normal field of 45 players contested the 2 Person Ambrose event this week. Winners on the day were Dorothy Madden teaming with Steve Johnston with a fine score of 32. They were followed home by Steve Collins and Greg Ware, and Solveig Olsson teaming with Ken Brown, both on 32.25 but with the former winning on count back. Lance Shadbolt and Len Rogers filled fourth place on 34.25. Balls or chocolates were won by Tim Starr and Les Johanson on 34.5, and on 34.75 the teams of David Williams and Allen Lee together with Greg Thornton and Richard Kelly.

    Newcomers to the game Greg Bush and Geoff Bellingham took out this weeks infamous Bradman award. Nearest the pins were won by Ken Brown on the 4th, Steve Johnston on the 6th, and Dorothy Madden and Steve Swanbury on the 7th. The accuracy award was won by another newcomer Jonathon Green.

  • Vets Golf Stroke and Putts

    Despite the coolish start to the morning a good field of 54 players registered for this morning’s Stroke and Putts event. Outright winner on the day was Club President Mike Birks with a great score of 30 strokes nett, effectively 6 under handicap. Mike was followed home by Kathy Crossling with a nett 31, and Noel Fletcher with a 32 on count back from Gayle Macalpine. Balls or chocolates were won by Teri Swanbury on 33, Richard Wharton on 34, Ian Wratten on 35, and the following players all on 36 – Ted Quinlan, Ann Ware, Ian Manton, Ross Macalpine, Richard Kelly, Jeanette Miller, and finally Vets Captain Ian Miller.

    Richard Kelly won the putting competition with 13 putts on count back from Gayle Macalpine with the same number. This week’s Bradman award was a closely fought duel between two players with Solveig Olsson drawing the short straw for the award. Nearest the pins were won by Mike Birks on the 4th, Dorothy Madden on the 6th, and Leonie Snodgrass and Ian Manton on the 7th. Kathy Crossling won the Accuracy drive.

  • Vets Golf 2 Person Irish Team Stableford

    On yet another beautiful morning in Tuross a good field of 58 players registered for the 2 Person Irish Team Stableford event. Winners on the day were the team of Derek Hoare and Peg Nevett with a score of 34 Stableford points. Runners up were husband and wife pairing Ray and Margaret Downey following closely behind on 33. They in turn were followed home by Chris and Ian Wratten, and Frank Pomfret and Paul Pereira on 29. Balls or chocolates were won by Ian and Jeanette Miller, Rick Brake and Richard Wharton, Kay and Allen McLeod, and Ross Davidson and Neil Mather, all on 28, and finally Bruce Martin and Steve Johnston on 27.

    Greg Bush and Geoff Bellingham struggled with their handicaps and were the unfortunate winners of the infamous Bradman award this week. Nearest the Pins went to Noel Downie on both the 4th and 6th, and to Margaret Downey and Wal Williams on the 7th, Margaret’s drive looking like a hole in one prospect until it rolled less than a metre past the hole. Peter McRae took out the Accuracy drive with a very long and accurate drive down the centre line on the 5th.

Vets Golf Program 2019

The Vets Golf Program for 2019 is now available monthly under the Golf Programme Sporting Club Events and Results. A copy is also on display at the Country Club on the Vets Golf notice board on the Ground Floor.

Vets Golf Special Events for 2019:

Elaine Jennings’ Ladies Trophy Rounds 1, 2 and 3 Stableford on 27 March, 10 April and 1 May.

Far South Coast Veteran Golfers Association (FSCVGA) Tuross event on 28 June 2019.

CHAMPIONSHIPS 1 & 2 – Club Championships Rounds
21 August and 11 September – Stroke & Putts.

Other important dates to note:

Vets Golf

Vets Golf at Tuross is open to anyone over 50 years young! Our primary objective is to provide a social game of golf for players of all standards in a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere.

Play every Wednesday morning for 9 holes. Registration times are as follows:
a. Between 1 September and 31 May: 7.45am for an 8.30am shotgun start.
b. Between 1 June and 31 August: 8.15am for a 9.00am shotgun start.

Vets Golf at Tuross use a unique handicapping system for their own events, so if you do not have an official handicap we will give you one for the day.

During the Christmas/New Year period we welcome Visitors of all ages and all players are eligible to win prizes on the day.

Entry Fee for Vets Golf varies (Members, Visitors, Juniors etc). Please contact the Vets Golf Club Captain (Ian Miller) for details or call in to the Country Club.

Average numbers of players each Wednesday is around 60. If you’re up for it please come along and join us on a Vets morning for some golf, fun & laughs!!
