Stephen Swanbury wins stableford competition

Tuross Head Country Club men golfers Saturday stableford competition was won by Stephen Swanbury with a score of 40 points. Michael Allen was a close second with 39 stableford points followed by Mark Haberkorn with 38 points. Steve Johnston with 37 points and Peter Garn who finished on 36 points were the remaining awardwinners.

Nearest the pins were won by A grade players Steve Collins, Ian McManus and Ian Lawson. Stephen Swanbury was closest on both the 4th and 6th hole and Peter Garn won the 7th in B division. Bruce Brawn, Mike Allen and Paul Coffey were the winners in C grade. Daryl Smith who was the best on the 7th.

Tuross golfers are preparing for the club championships which will be played over 54 holes commencing on Saturday May 8th and will be completed on the weekend of Saturday May 15th and Sunday May 16th.

Vets Golf Stroke and Putts Event

An unusually small field of only 49 players registered for the Tuross Head Veterans Golf Stroke and Putt event on Wednesday 28 April 2021. Winner on the day was Paul Pereira with a nett score of 29, representing a score of 6 below handicap for the nine holes played. Runner up was Shirley Quinlan with 30, beating home Ann Ware and Kevin Reilly with 32 on count back.

Minor prizes went to Greg Bush, Dave Munro and Margaret Downey with 34, Des Jackson, Barry Hoban and Graham Moore with 36, and finally Peter Coffey, Terry Lunn and Rob Nash all on 36.

Graham Moore took out the putting contest with only 12 putts for the nine holes, whilst nearest the pins went to Des Jackson on the 4th, Frank Pomfret on the 6th, and to Shirley Quinlan and Ken Brown on the 7th. Greg Bush took out the Accuracy award.

Steven O’Shea best in stableford field

 

Tuross Head Country Club men’s golf Saturday April 24 golf competition resulted in a win for well known  golfer Steven O’Shea, who won on a countback from Stephen Gardner and Malcolm Gilbertson, with an excellent score of 39 stableford points. Ray Bollard, with 37 points, and David Williams 35 points, were the remaining award winners.

Nearest the pins were won by Jason Nikolic, Ray Bollard and Colin Houghton in A grade. Jim Wade and John Eglitis, who was closest on two of the par 3 holes, were the best in B grade and Bruce Brawn and Mark Forrest were C division winners.

Thursday’s medley stableford competition was won by Brian Gunn with a score of 38 points ahead of Ron Rogers 36, Darrell Kildey, Nigel Barling and Richard Wharton who all finished with 35 stableford points.

Nearest the pins were won by Steve Gardner, Paul Medwin and Michael Coloe.

Vets Golf Single Stableford Event

Wednesday 21 April saw 53 players register for the Tuross Head Veterans Golf Single Stableford event on a course that at long last is starting to really dry out following the heavy rains of past months. Winner on the day with a fine score of 23 points was Paul Green, beating home Jennifer Gray on 21 and Paul Coffey from Ian Manton with 20 points.

Minor prizes were awarded to Des Jackson with 20, Steve Johnston, Bruce Ware, Neil Mather and Tim Skinner on 19, and finally Jeanette Miller, Peter Davies, Ross Hendy and Solveig Olsson with 18.

The infamous Bradman award went to Warren Hodder and nearest the pins to Ross Hendy 0n the 4th, Neal Watson on the 6th, and to Gail Rogers and Peter McRae on the 7th. Chris Wratten took out the Accuracy drive.

Vets Golf 2 Person Ambrose Event

On what turned out to be a beautiful morning for golf, 54 players registered for the Tuross Head Veteran Golfers 2 Person Ambrose event on Wednesday 14 April 2021. Winning team on the day was the pairing of Rick Brake and Richard Wharton with a nett score of 30.5 for the 9 holes played. They were followed home by Leonie Snodgrass and Bruce Martin with 31.0, Mike Birks and Herb Muriwai on 31.5,  and Greg Smith paired with Ian Manton on 31.75.

Balls went to Ken Hush and Jane Eglitis with 32.5, Steve Collins and Frank Pomfret on 33.5, Jeanette and Ian Miller with 33.5, Steve Gardner and Warren Hodder on 33.75, and finally Ken Brown and Noel Downie on 34.25.

Peter Hogan scores a Hole in One.

Tuross Head Country Club men’s  stableford competition held on Saturday April 10 saw well known local golfer Peter Hogan, score a hole in one on the 15th hole. Congratulations Peter from all Tuross players.

John Eglitis emerged as the winner of the stableford event with a score of 42 stableford points. Paul Rowe was a close second with  40 points, ahead of Ian McManus with 38, Steve Pritchell 36, and Shane Gschwend who finished with 36 stableford points.

Nearest the pins were won by Brad Doolan on the 4th and 6th hole in division A, division B golfer Paul Rowe was best on the 4th. Herb Muriwai won the award on the 4th hole in C grade.

Thursday’s medley stableford event was won by Jim Wade with 38 points beating Neil Mather on  a countback. Darrell Kildey filled third spot with 35 points followed by Allen Gannon and Ray Bollard who both handed in cards of 34 […]

Vets Golf Stableford Event

With a combination of grand parenting duties and a wet course following recent rains affecting numbers, a small field of 43 players registered for the Tuross Head Veterans Golf Single Stableford event on Wednesday 7 April 2021. As is usual for the Tuross Vets, grand children are allowed to play in the Vets competitions during school holidays, and today’s game was no exception.

Winner on the day was visiting junior Joe Eccleston with a fine score of 22 points. Joe beat home local Vets players Steve Collins with 21, Bruce Martin on 20 and Ross Hendy with 18 on count back. Minor prizes were awarded to Teri Swanbury on 18, Paul Pereira and Ken Brown with 17, and to John Cox, Dorothy Madden, Graham Moore and Warren Hodder all on 16 points. April Monthly Medal Men’s Golf Results

Tuross Head Country Club men’s Saturday April 3 monthly medal stroke competition is played over three grades and the results this week were as follows:

Ian McManus was the best in the A grade division with an excellent score of 67 nett strokes. Troy Kingdom was second with 71 and Brad Doolan filled second place with 72 strokes.

B grade division was won by Russell Taylor with a  nett 73 ahead of Trevor Jones and Ron Rogers who both returned cards of 74 strokes.

C division was dominated by very welcome visiting golfers to the Tuross course with Ian Sheppard taking out first place with a low score of 69 nett strokes. Ian was closely followed by Ian Hosking with 70 strokes and Trot Goodwin was third with a score of nett 73 strokes.

Ted Quinlan was awarded the C grade medal with a score of 74 strokes.

Vets Golf Par Event

Following all the recent rains the fifty three players who registered for the Tuross Head Veterans Golf Par event on Wednesday 31 March found the going very heavy. If there was a winner, scores on the day showed that the course clearly won out overall. Leading score on the day was a +2 by Lance Shadbolt. Lance was followed home by Frank Pomfret and Greg Bush with +1, with Bruce Martin on square rounding out the major winners. Balls or chocolates were won by Neal Watson on square, Peter Coffey, Ian Wratten, Rick Brake, Shirley Quinlan and Leonie Snodgrass on -1, and finally Greg Thornton, Annette Manton, Sandra Hanlon and Derek Hoare all on -2.

Vets Golf Stroke Event

On Wednesday 17 March 2021 49 players registered for the Tuross Head Veteran Golfer’s Stroke event, numbers being well down with considerable rain forecast for the day. Fortunately play was uninterrupted and all players returned dry.

Winner on the day was Terry Lunn with a nett score of 32. Terry was followed home by Barry Hoban with 33, and then Greg Bush and Ian Manton with scores of 34. Balls or chocolates went to Paul Coffey, Derek Hoare and Ian Wratten with scores of 35, Ron Hanlon, Gail Rogers, Blaise Madden and Rob Nash with 36, and finally to Dorothy Madden and Chris Wratten with 37s on count back.

Tony Crook took out the infamous Bradman award whilst nearest the pins went to Kevin Dukes on the 4th, Lance Shadbolt on the 6th, and to Chris Wratten and Steve Collins on the 7th. Frank Pomfret won the Accuracy drive.

Jason Nikolic wins stableford competition

Tuross Head Country Club men’s Saturday golf stableford competition was won by Jason Nikolic with a score of 39 stableford points.

Michael Allen was a close second with 38 points. Shane Gschwend followed with 37 for third placing. Troy Kingdom and Bruce Brawn both returned cards of 36 points.

Ian McManus had the golfer’s ultimate satisfaction of scoring a hole in one on the fourth hole.

Nearest the pins were won by Ian McManus, Jason Nikolic and Troy Kingdom in the A grade division. Closest of the B grade players was Trevor Jones, Ian Manton and Shane Gschwend. C grade player Peter Johnston was closest on two par 3 holes with Mike Allen also an award winner.

Thursday’s medley stableford competition was won by Ray Bollard with 42 points edging out Paul Medwin and Ian Lawson on a countback.

Vets Golf Special Par Event

On what was a morning with rain threatening to disrupt proceedings, a good field of 61 players registered for the Tuross Head Vets golf Special Par event. This is an event unique to Tuross Vets that is based on the regular Par event, but where scores below par result in multiple plusses. It is also an event that tends to favour higher handicappers.

Winner on the day was Gayle MacAlpine with a fine score of +7 for the nine holes played. Ted Quinlan was runner up with a score of +4, with Ian Miller edging out Paul Coffey for third place on count back , both players recording a score of +2. Balls or chocolates were won by Greg Thornton, Rob Ware, Mike Birks and Blaise Madden with scores of +1, and Paul Pereira, Peter McRae, Leonie Snodgrasss, Peg Nevett, Richard Wharton and Peter Frost on square.
