Carol Williams  – Tuross Head Women’s  Major Singles Winner 2020

We are all missing our lawn bowls  as we haven’t played since mid- March.  Just before we ceased playing, Tuross Head  finalised their Women’s Major Singles competition.

This match was a very exciting one between two very experienced bowlers Carol Williams and Gail Page. It was a treat for spectators as they cheered the finalists along.

Carol  Williams ended up being the victor  for 2020 with Gail Page- Davies a worthy runner- up.

Carol was especially thrilled with her success as she has played bowls at high level at Tuross for many years, and has been a wonderful mentor to many players, but this year was the first time she has been able to win the coveted Club Major singles.

Congratulations Carol.  Your photo will go on the board of  2020 champions !!

Tuross bunnies hop to Sydney for Summer League final

Tuross Bunnies hop to Sydney for finals of Summer League
You might have thought that these three ladies, the “ Tuross Bunnies” were mixed up about the date for Easter in 2020, but not so. They recently played in the new Womens Bowls NSW competition called “The Summer League.” It was introduced in 2019 to encourage good competition for players, especially working women who can only play in “out of hours “ eg evenings or the weekend.
However several teams, from the Far South Coast District who play regularly and just love their bowls, entered this competition which ran from October to December. Teams from Malua Bay, Bermagui, Tomakin and two Tuross sides battled it out to make it to the finals.
The “Tuross Bunnies”namely Irene Macdonald, Doreen Monks and Fran O’Connell were victorious and will now play off at Blacktown Workers Club on Saturday 29th February and Sunday, 1st March.
The team makeup could only have one Grade 1 player, in this case, Irene and two other players of varying ability in order to give a fairer chance to newer players to compete in this initiative.
The game is a two bowls triples format, played over 15 ends, which should be a fast and very exciting game.
We wish our ladies much success playing at the State level against teams from all around the State. So hop to it Bunnies and fill your baskets with the trophies, but more importantly have fun!

Tuross Ladies scoop the pool at recent Classic Pairs Bowls tournament

By |2019-09-07T17:00:25+10:00September 6th, 2019|Categories: Women's Bowls|

We held our Classic Pairs on the first weekend in September.  A field of 24 teams participated, coming from as far as Queanbeyan, Canberra, Tathra, Eden and Merimbula as well as our local District clubs.

It was a wonderfully  competitive event and it was so close that  the final result  was  not available until the last players  finished their game, well after the others.

The winners were: Irene Mac Donald and Gail Page- Davies, followed closely in second place by Rita Downie and Carol Williams.  Both were from Tuross Head Country Club and  were the only 5 game winners.

This was followed by three four game winners: In 3rd place were Lesley Gruber and Nerida Black of Queanbeyan,  4th place Donna Seddon and Mandy Stitt of Queanbeyan, 5th place Di Lockhart and Denise Falvey of Tathra.

Denise Lidbury and Sue Fahey of Tuross were  in 6th place, top of the ten 3 game winners, with a mighty 19 points ahead of the next three game winners.

Many thanks to Bowls Organiser Rose Farrington, who, along with her committee, lead a great event. The raffles were beautifully presented as were the table decorations and small mementos, many of them hand made by Rose.

Our thanks again  to  Bronwyn Moore of Travel Team, Batemans Bay  for  sponsoring both our womens events in 2019.

We look forward to  2020 when we hold this event again. Many of the players enjoyed their three night stay in Tuross Head.

Successful Mixed Bowls Carnival at Tuross Head

By |2019-07-23T13:52:14+10:00July 23rd, 2019|Categories: Women's Bowls|

Last Monday, two full rinks of  bowlers enjoyed a beautiful  day on the greens at Tuross Head playing in the club’s annual  Women’s Mixed Pairs Carnival. Competition was strong, but the bowlers who coped with the very slick  top green were the victors on the day.

We were very grateful to  Bronwyn Moore  of Travel Team Batemans Bay  who was the major sponsor and was there  at the end of the day to present the winners with their prize money.

The prize winners were spread  around the District  bowling clubs: 1st was Keith Pickett and Vicki Herman of Narooma, 2nd was Viv Patrikka and Gail Vigden  of Malua Bay  and 3rd was Paul Vanda and  Rachel Kincaid of Bodalla.

Denise Lidbury Selected for NSW Country

By |2018-10-30T08:39:14+11:00October 30th, 2018|Categories: Women's Bowls|

Denise Lidbury is off to Soldiers Point this weekend, 3rd and 4th November to play in the NSW State Annual Bowls fixture of Country versus City. There are twenty bowlers chosen for each side. Four members play in the under 25’s and eight in both the Open and Seniors.
Denise has been a member of Tuross Head Country Club Women’s Bowling Club since 1990. In that time she has won many club titles as well as District. She has participated regularly in Regional and State events.

In 2018 she was a member of the Tuross Head Pennant 1 side who played at the Entrance in August in the State playoffs.

She also played in the pairs, triples and fours competitions at the State level at Taren Point in September. The selectors certainly had an eye for excellence in choosing Denise to be part of the Country Seniors side. She, along with Emma Petit from Merimbula are the only two representatives from the south of New South Wales.

Tuross Head Country Club is extremely proud of Denise’s efforts and wish her well in this highly contested event.

We hope Country will be able to defend the title they won in 2017.
