Another good field of 56 players registered for todays Par event with great scores being recorded by a large section of the field. Winner on the day was Greg Thornton with a +5 score, leading home Neil Mather on +4, Rob Nash on +3 followed by Margaret Downey also on +3 but losing to Rob on count back. Balls or chocolates were won by Neal Watson and Mike Birks on +3, Leonie Snodgrass, Les Johanson, Lyn Benger, Chris Wratten and Ian Manton on +2, and then Annette Manton, Kathy Crossling, Ann Challender, Frank Pomfret and Derek Hoare on +1,  a number of other +1 scores being beaten on count back.

Today’s infamous Bradman award went to long time Tuross player Ross Macalpine, whilst nearest the pins were won by Marcel Kors on the 4th, Frank Pomfret on the 6th, and Teri Swanbury and Steve Johnston on the 7th. Paul Green took home the Accuracy drive.

Vets Golf Single Stableford

On yet another beautiful Tuross morning a field of 55 players teed off for the mornings Single Stableford event. Winner on the day was Geoff Bellingham with an almost unbelievable score of 28 points for the nine holes played. Geoff was followed home by Shirley Quinlan on 26, Leonie Snodgrass on 23 and Ray Downey on 22 on count back. Balls or chocolates were won by Ann Ware and Ken Brown on 22, Allen Lee, Noel Fletcher, Enid Besant-Ryan, Neil Mather and Jennifer Gray on 20, and finally Rick Brake, Graham Moore, Les Johanson and Steve Johnston on 19.

This week’s Bradman award was taken out by visiting golfer Daniel Madden, whilst nearest the pins went to Graham Moore on the 4th on the toss of coin from Ken Brown (both players in the hole for a birdie), Terry Challender on the 6th, Leonie Snodgrass for the ladies on the 7th, whilst Greg Smith won on the 7th for the men on a toss of the coin from Neil Mather (both players in the hole for a birdie). Neil Mather capped off a good morning with the Accuracy drive award on the 5th.

Vets Golf 2 Person Irish Team Stableford

Fifty six players teed off in this mornings 2 Person Irish Team Stableford event. Winners on the day were Julie Barningham and Warren Hodder with a great team score of 40 points for the 9 holes played. Congratulations to them both. They were followed home by the teams of Tony Crook and Solveig Olsson on 38, Chris and Ian Wratten on 33 and Derek Hoare and Greg Ware on 33, with the former beating the latter on count back.

Balls or chocolates were won by Shirley and Ted Quinlan, Jeanette Miller and Andrew Gordon, and Ross Hendy and Noel Fletcher all on 32, followed by the teams of Ross Davidson and Neil Mather, and Annette and Ian Manton on 31. This week’s infamous Bradman award was taken out by the pairing of Paul Rowe and Greg Thornton, whilst nearest the pins went to Andrew Gordon on both the 4th and 6th holes, and to Annette Manton and Steve Gardner on the 7th. Blaise Madden won the Accuracy drive award on the 5th.

Vets Golf Stroke and Putts

Yet another good field of 66 players teed off for the Stroke and Putts event this morning. Winner on the day was Paul Green with a nett score of 26, nine under handicap. He was followed by Des Jackson on 27, Terry Challender on 29 and Don Russell on 30. Balls or chocolates were won by Steve Collins on 31, Herb Muriwai, Neal Watson, Rob Nash and David Williams on 32, Dorothy Madden, Frank Pomfret, Richard Wharton and Peg Nevett on 33, Ross Macalpine, Rick Brake, Gayle Macalpine and Teri Swanbury on 34, and finally Tim Starr and Dave Munro on 35.

Herb Muriwai took out the putting competition with 11 putts for the 9 holes played, an excellent result. This week’s Bradman award went to Denis Benger whilst nearest the pins were won by Ross Macalpine on the 4th, Steve Gardner on the 6th, and Annette Manton and Dave Munro on the 7th. Steve Collins hit the straightest drive to take out the Accuracy award.

Vets Golf Stableford

Yet another good field of 66 players teed off this morning for our Vets Single Stableford event. Scores on the day were outstanding with no fewer than 20 players breaking handicap. Winner on the day was Terry Lunn with 25 points, beating home in count back order Sandra Hanlon, Greg Thornton and Ian Miller, all on 24. Balls or chocolates went to Ian and Chris Wratten, Terry Challender, Bruce Martin and Ray Downey all on 23, Gayle Macalpine and Noel Downie on 22, Annette Manton, Peg Nevett, Stephen Crossling, Marcel Kors and Gail Rogers all on 20, and finally Ron Hanlon, Steve Swanbury, Jennifer Gray and our visiting golfer Steve Gardner from Queensland on 19.

Noel Flechter was having an off day with the clubs and took home the Bradman award, whilst nearest the pins were won by Lance Shadbolt on the 4th, Bruce Martin on the 6th, and Leonie Snodgrass and Les Johanson on the 7th. Steve Swanbury took out a closely contested Accuracy drive award.

Vets Golf 2 Person Ambrose & Phyllis Starr Tin Cup

With the offer of a free gala day lunch on offer a good field of 64 players registered for the 2 Person Ambrose event, players also vying for the Phyllis Starr “tin cup” . Winners on the day were Peter McRae and Brian Smith with a nett score of 27.5. They beat home the teams of John Cox and Kevin Dukes on 29.25, Bruce Martin and Steve Johnston on 29.75, and husband and wife team Ted and Shirley Quinlan on 31.5.

Balls or chocolates were won by Leonie Snodgrass and Lyn Benger, Ross Hendy and Noel Fletcher, and Steve and Teri Swanbury, all teams with a score of 32.75, Mike Adair and Steve Crossling, and Neil Mather and Bruce Ware on 33.0, and finally Lance Shadbolt and Denis Benger on 33.5.

This week’s infamous Bradman award was won by the husband and wife team of Blaise and Dorothy Madden (not sure if they are still speaking!!), whilst nearest the pins went to John Cox on the 4th, Brian Smith on the 6th, and to Lida Davis (a visitor) and Steve Johnston on the 7th. Sandra Hanlon took out the Accuracy drive.

Vets Golf Special Par

Fifty four players registered for the Special Par event, a game unique to Tuross Vets where a score less than handicap can result in a multiple plus score on any hole. This event typically benefits the higher handicap golfer.

Winner on the day was John Cox with an unbelievable score of +10 for just nine holes, reinforcing the opportunities to benefit from below handicap scores. John was followed home by Margaret Downey on +7, and Derek Hoare on +5 on count back from Colin Fletcher. Balls or chocolates were won by Teri Swanbury, Rick Brake, Peter MacDonald, Tony Crook and Richard Wharton all on +4, and then Greg Smith, Paul Green, Kaye Lunt, Greg Bush, Ann Ware and Herb Muriwai on +3. This week’s infamous Bradman award was a close finish, being taken out by Blaise Madden in a tight finish.

Nearest the pins went to John Cox on the 4th, Greg Smith on the 6th, and to Terti Swanbury and Peter MacDonald on the 7th. Steve Swanbury completed a happy Swanbury morning by taking out the Accuracy drive on the 5th.

Vets Golf 4BBB

Under beautiful sunny skies and a warmer temperature, 65 players teed off this morning for the Vets 4BBB Stableford event. Scores on the day were outstanding, a fact noted and to be acted upon by the handicapper.

Winning team on the day was the combination of Rob Nash and Dave Munro with 29 points on count back from Henry Anderson and Terry Lunn on the same incredible score.

They were followed home by 5 teams on 26 points, with the prize money for third and fourth places going to Steve Collins combining with Solveig Olsson and Ken Brown with his grandson Ceiran. Balls or chocolates were won by Marcel Kors and Don Russell, Tim Starr and Les Johanson, and Jeanette and Ian Miller with all 3 teams missing out on the 26 count back money, followed by Noel Downie and Enid Besant-Ryan on 25 and Len and Gail Rogers on 24 on a 3 way count back.
Ross Hendy and Noel Fletcher won the Bradman award, whilst nearest the pins were taken out by Ken Brown on the 4th, Kevin Dukes on the 6th, and Leonie Snodgrass and Ted Quinlan on the 7th.

Terry Challender hit the straightest drive on the 5th to win this week’s Accuracy drive.

Vets Golf Par Event

A very good field of 64 players teed off for the Par event under beautiful spring skies and little wind. Winner on the day was Jennifer Gray with a great score of +4.

Jennifer was followed home in order of count back results by Greg Smith, Warren Hodder and Noel Downie, all on +3. Balls or chocolates were won by Richard Wharton, Mike Birks, Ron Hanlon, Stephen Crossling, Des Jackson, Neal Watson, Allen Lee, Kaye Lunt, Derek Hoare, Greg Ware and Henry Anderson all with scores of +1.

The infamous Bradman award was won for the second week by newcomer Blaise Madden with nearest the pins going to Warren Hodder on the 4th, Steve Collins on the 6th, and to Ann Challender and Greg Smith on the 7th. Dorothy Madden took out the Accuracy drive on the 5th.

Results of the 2019 Veterans Golf Championship were announced with Chris Wratten taking out the Ladies honours from runner up Jennifer Gray, and Chris’ husband Ian being a very surprised men’s winner from runner up and our eldest vets golfer Tim Starr. Congratulations to you all.

Vets compete in 2 Person Multiplier

On yet another beautiful Tuross morning a good field of 55 players registered for the programmed 2 person Stableford Multiplier eve

Winning team on the day with a score of 42 points was the combination of Tim Starr and Les Johanson, seeing off a field many years their junior. Runners up were Teri and Steve Swanbury on 41, followed home by Anne and Bruce Ware on 36 beating home Annette and Ian Manton on the same score on count back.

Balls or chocolates were won by Frank Pomfret and Steve Collins on 36, Tony Crook and Ken Brown on 36, Peg Nevett and Len Rogers on 35, Robin and Paul Green on 35, and finally Kevin Dukes and Graham Moore also on 35.

The infamous Bradman award went to the team of Solveig Olsson and Ross Hendy, whilst nearest the pins went to Kevin Dukes on the 4th, Les Thompson on the 6th, and to Leonie Snodgrass and Ian Manton on the 7th.

Leonie Snodgrass capped off a winning morning by also taking out the Accuracy award on the 5th.
