The Annual Autumn Carnival was held over five days last week. Although the numbers were down, the Carnival was a great success with the fantastic weather and the wonderful conditions of the greens making for some very exciting bowls. A big thanks to all of the sponsors who make it possible to hold the Carnival.
The Carnival started on Sunday with the Tuross Pharmacy Mixed Pairs. Peter and Sue White from Moruya won the day from locals Rose Farrington and Peter Macdonald and Denise and Bruce Lidbury.
The Tuross Head Country Club sponsored Monday’s Men’s Pairs with Alan Hollaway (Malua Bay) and Greg Wale (Moruya) winning from Moruya’s Robbie Strachan and Jason Hassock. Locals Bruce Lidbury and Jim Macklan took home third prize.
On Tuesday an Open Triples Event sponsored by Platinum Blinds was won by the Malua Bay team of Brendan Maher, Tony Giannasca and Steve Maher. Locals Stuart Graham, Patrick Sager and Peter Bird were a close second while another Malua team of three ladies – Karen Signor, Janet Mckay and Jenny Blyth – took out third place.
Alan May Motor Group sponsored the Open Pairs on Wednesday with an Ulladulla team of Bill Harris and Anthony Barca winning from Canberra’s Kate and Mort Schipp and the local side of Stuart Graham and John Monks.
The final event on Thursday was the Hallmark Real Estate Mixed Medley. Rita and Noel Downie and Denise and Bruce Lidbury won the day followed by Rae and Laurie Fayle and Sue and Denis Bevan (Malua Bay) and Irene Martin, Allan Etheredge, Annette Linney and Stan Peck.
Narooma’s Dawn Kenny didn’t have much success on the greens but was thrilled to win the major raffle very generously donated by Mike Twohill from Dubbo. She now has two nights accommodation in Dubbo, a meal voucher for the RSL and tickets to the Western Plains Zoo!!
Round 2 of the Major singles continued on Saturday with three very one sided matches. Peter Davies was far too good for Ray Downey, Noel Downie accounted for Ian Wratten and John Fahey had the better of Doug Williams. Round three matches will be played on Saturday May 20.
