We held our Classic Pairs on the first weekend in September. A field of 24 teams participated, coming from as far as Queanbeyan, Canberra, Tathra, Eden and Merimbula as well as our local District clubs.
It was a wonderfully competitive event and it was so close that the final result was not available until the last players finished their game, well after the others.
The winners were: Irene Mac Donald and Gail Page- Davies, followed closely in second place by Rita Downie and Carol Williams. Both were from Tuross Head Country Club and were the only 5 game winners.
This was followed by three four game winners: In 3rd place were Lesley Gruber and Nerida Black of Queanbeyan, 4th place Donna Seddon and Mandy Stitt of Queanbeyan, 5th place Di Lockhart and Denise Falvey of Tathra.
Denise Lidbury and Sue Fahey of Tuross were in 6th place, top of the ten 3 game winners, with a mighty 19 points ahead of the next three game winners.
Many thanks to Bowls Organiser Rose Farrington, who, along with her committee, lead a great event. The raffles were beautifully presented as were the table decorations and small mementos, many of them hand made by Rose.
Our thanks again to Bronwyn Moore of Travel Team, Batemans Bay for sponsoring both our womens events in 2019.
We look forward to 2020 when we hold this event again. Many of the players enjoyed their three night stay in Tuross Head.
On Thursday, 22nd and Friday 23rd August, our team selected to participate in the prestigious Nader Shield travelled to Tomakin Sports and Social Club in the club bus. We played a total of 6 games in each section against the clubs in the Far South Coast District. These included: Bermagui, Narooma, Dalmeny, Moruya , Tomakin and Malua Bay.
Denise Lidbury played Singles, Rose Farrington and Irene Macdonald played in the Pairs, Carol Williams, Rita Downie and Di Challice played in the Triples and Gail Page- Davies, Sue Fahey, Chris Roxby and Marg Downey played in the Fours.
Special congratulations go to Rose and Irene who won the Pairs competition overall with a mighty 100 points.
Malua Bay won the overall point score to take the shield in 2019 with 340 points. We were delighted to be the runners -up, scoring 295 points. This is no mean feat for a small club.
Well done Tuross Head.
Last Monday, two full rinks of bowlers enjoyed a beautiful day on the greens at Tuross Head playing in the club’s annual Women’s Mixed Pairs Carnival. Competition was strong, but the bowlers who coped with the very slick top green were the victors on the day.
We were very grateful to Bronwyn Moore of Travel Team Batemans Bay who was the major sponsor and was there at the end of the day to present the winners with their prize money.
The prize winners were spread around the District bowling clubs: 1st was Keith Pickett and Vicki Herman of Narooma, 2nd was Viv Patrikka and Gail Vigden of Malua Bay and 3rd was Paul Vanda and Rachel Kincaid of Bodalla.
On Monday 3rd June, Denise Lidbury, Sue Fahey and Rose Farrington will play in the Regional playoff of the Womens Bowling Association Triples.
