On what turned out to be a cloudy and blustery morning 63 players registered for the Tuross Head Veterans golf single Stableford event today. High scores continue to be the talking point amongst our golfers with a high score of 31 points by relative newcomer Julie Barningham being the day’s highlight. Whispers around the traps have confirmed Julie has not only been having lessons from the recently appointed professional, Rob Green, but has acquired a putting aid and has been hard at it puting it to great use. Runner up today was our most senior lady golfer Peg Nevett with a great score of 28, with third place going to Paul Pereira with 26 on count back from Ross Hendy.

Balls went to Annette Manton, Dorothy Madden, Jeanette Miller, Warren Hodder, Sandra Hanlon and Greg Smith on 24, Rob Nash, Richard Kelly, Margaret Downey and Des Jackson on 23, Leonie Snodgrass, Enid Besant-Ryan and Don Russell on 22, Blaise Madden, Ian Wratten, Noel Downie and Ann Ware on 21, and finally Richard Wharton and Frank Pomfret on 20. Graham Moore took out the Bradman award this week.

Despite several late withdrawals, another strong field of 65 players registered for Wednesday’s Tuross Head Vets Golf Single Stableford event. Scores continue to be unusually high with the handicapper considering a review of current arrangements to make results more equitable amongst players.
Winner on the day with what must be the highest score on record was John Cox with 31 points from the nine holes played. John beat home Les Johanson on 29, Dorothy Madden on 27 and Terry Lunn on 25. Minor prizes went to Ted Quinlan, Graham Moore and Chris Wratten on 24, Ross Richardson, Paul Coffey, Annette Manton, Leonie Snodgrass, Ray Downey and Shirley Quinlan on 23, Warren Hodder, Allen Lee and Frank Pomfret on 21, and finally after a 12 way count back, Neal Watson with 20 points.
It should be noted that all scores were recorded on a course where the greens had been cored and sanded over the previous two days!!

Vets Golf 3 Club Special Par Event

Notwithstanding several late withdrawals, a strong field of 65 players registered for Wednesday’s Tuross Head Vets Golf event. The game was a 3 club event combined with a modified version of the standard Par game, known as Special Par, an event unique to Tuross Vets. This game generally favours the higher handicapper where multiple plusses can be scored on a hole for a score below handicap.
Winner on the day, with a higher than average handicap, was Greg Bush with a magnificent score of +9 for the nine holes played. Greg beat home three players on +5 with the count back order going to Enid Besant-Ryan  (obviously benefitting from recent lessons), Gayle MacAlpine and Robin Green. Minor prizes were awarded to Jennifer Gray, Barry Hoban, Jeanette Miller and Ken Brown on +4, Peter Coffey (also with recent lessons), Mike Birks, Allen Lee, Rick Brake and Neal Watson on +3, and finally Solveig Olsson, David Williams, Tony Crook, Des Jackson and Annette Manton with +2s, all on count back. Rob Nash had a game to forget this morning and was a clear winner of the infamous Bradman award.
In separate news, outcome of the Elaine Jennings trophy for lady players was announced this week. The trophy is awarded annually by Noel Fletcher in memory of his late wife Elaine. This year’s winner was Gail Rogers, her first win in this competition after many years trying. Congratulations Gail.
