Vets Golf Stroke and Putts Event

Despite the course suffering from recent rains, 49 players registered for the Tuross Head Veteran Golfers Single Stableford event on Wednesday 12 May. Winner on the day with a fine score of 23 points for the 9 holes played was Ross Davidson. Ross beat home Warren Hodder and Les Thompson on 19, and then Gail Rogers on 18. Minor prizes went to Peter Coffey on 18, Ray Downey, Ted Quinlan and Peter Frost on 17, Neil Mather, Paul Coffey and David Williams on 16, and finally Ann Ware and Margaret Downey on 15.

The Bradman award was a closely fought out affair with Julie Barningham taking out the infamous award on count back.

Nearest the pins went to Ken Brown on the 4th, Greg Smith on the 6th, and to Leonie Snodgrass and Frank Pomfret on the 7th. Ian Miller won the Accuracy award.

Vets Golf Stroke and Putts Event

An unusually small field of only 49 players registered for the Tuross Head Veterans Golf Stroke and Putt event on Wednesday 28 April 2021. Winner on the day was Paul Pereira with a nett score of 29, representing a score of 6 below handicap for the nine holes played. Runner up was Shirley Quinlan with 30, beating home Ann Ware and Kevin Reilly with 32 on count back.

Minor prizes went to Greg Bush, Dave Munro and Margaret Downey with 34, Des Jackson, Barry Hoban and Graham Moore with 36, and finally Peter Coffey, Terry Lunn and Rob Nash all on 36.

Graham Moore took out the putting contest with only 12 putts for the nine holes, whilst nearest the pins went to Des Jackson on the 4th, Frank Pomfret on the 6th, and to Shirley Quinlan and Ken Brown on the 7th. Greg Bush took out the Accuracy award.

Vets Golf Single Stableford Event

Wednesday 21 April saw 53 players register for the Tuross Head Veterans Golf Single Stableford event on a course that at long last is starting to really dry out following the heavy rains of past months. Winner on the day with a fine score of 23 points was Paul Green, beating home Jennifer Gray on 21 and Paul Coffey from Ian Manton with 20 points.

Minor prizes were awarded to Des Jackson with 20, Steve Johnston, Bruce Ware, Neil Mather and Tim Skinner on 19, and finally Jeanette Miller, Peter Davies, Ross Hendy and Solveig Olsson with 18.

The infamous Bradman award went to Warren Hodder and nearest the pins to Ross Hendy 0n the 4th, Neal Watson on the 6th, and to Gail Rogers and Peter McRae on the 7th. Chris Wratten took out the Accuracy drive.

Vets Golf 2 Person Ambrose Event

On what turned out to be a beautiful morning for golf, 54 players registered for the Tuross Head Veteran Golfers 2 Person Ambrose event on Wednesday 14 April 2021. Winning team on the day was the pairing of Rick Brake and Richard Wharton with a nett score of 30.5 for the 9 holes played. They were followed home by Leonie Snodgrass and Bruce Martin with 31.0, Mike Birks and Herb Muriwai on 31.5,  and Greg Smith paired with Ian Manton on 31.75.

Balls went to Ken Hush and Jane Eglitis with 32.5, Steve Collins and Frank Pomfret on 33.5, Jeanette and Ian Miller with 33.5, Steve Gardner and Warren Hodder on 33.75, and finally Ken Brown and Noel Downie on 34.25.

The infamous Bradman award went to the pairing of Greg Thornton and Barry Hoban, whilst nearest the pins went to Ross MacAlpine on the 4th, Paul Coffey on the 6th, and to Ian and Jeanette Miller on the 7th. Bruce Martin took out the Accuracy drive.

Vets Golf Stableford Event

With a combination of grand parenting duties and a wet course following recent rains affecting numbers, a small field of 43 players registered for the Tuross Head Veterans Golf Single Stableford event on Wednesday 7 April 2021. As is usual for the Tuross Vets, grand children are allowed to play in the Vets competitions during school holidays, and today’s game was no exception.

Winner on the day was visiting junior Joe Eccleston with a fine score of 22 points. Joe beat home local Vets players Steve Collins with 21, Bruce Martin on 20 and Ross Hendy with 18 on count back. Minor prizes were awarded to Teri Swanbury on 18, Paul Pereira and Ken Brown with 17, and to John Cox, Dorothy Madden, Graham Moore and Warren Hodder all on 16 points. The Bradman award was a hotly contested affair with Neal Watson winning out on count back. Nearest the pins went to Bruce Martin on the 4th, Ted Quinlan on the 6th, and to Leonie Snodgrass and Herb Muriwai on the 7th. Leonie Snodgrass took out the Accuracy award.

Vets Golf Par Event

Following all the recent rains the fifty three players who registered for the Tuross Head Veterans Golf Par event on Wednesday 31 March found the going very heavy. If there was a winner, scores on the day showed that the course clearly won out overall. Leading score on the day was a +2 by Lance Shadbolt. Lance was followed home by Frank Pomfret and Greg Bush with +1, with Bruce Martin on square rounding out the major winners. Balls or chocolates were won by Neal Watson on square, Peter Coffey, Ian Wratten, Rick Brake, Shirley Quinlan and Leonie Snodgrass on -1, and finally Greg Thornton, Annette Manton, Sandra Hanlon and Derek Hoare all on -2.

It was impossible to split two scores for the infamous Bradman award with Graham Moore and Barry Hoban sharing the honours. Nearest the pins went to Bruce Martin on the 4th, Ross Hendy on the 6th, and Teri Swanbury and Peter Coffey on the 7th. Shirley Quinlan rounded off a successful day by taking out the Accuracy drive on the 5th.

Vets Golf Stroke Event

On Wednesday 17 March 2021 49 players registered for the Tuross Head Veteran Golfer’s Stroke event, numbers being well down with considerable rain forecast for the day. Fortunately play was uninterrupted and all players returned dry.

Winner on the day was Terry Lunn with a nett score of 32. Terry was followed home by Barry Hoban with 33, and then Greg Bush and Ian Manton with scores of 34. Balls or chocolates went to Paul Coffey, Derek Hoare and Ian Wratten with scores of 35, Ron Hanlon, Gail Rogers, Blaise Madden and Rob Nash with 36, and finally to Dorothy Madden and Chris Wratten with 37s on count back.

Tony Crook took out the infamous Bradman award whilst nearest the pins went to Kevin Dukes on the 4th, Lance Shadbolt on the 6th, and to Chris Wratten and Steve Collins on the 7th. Frank Pomfret won the Accuracy drive.

Vets Golf Special Par Event

On what was a morning with rain threatening to disrupt proceedings, a good field of 61 players registered for the Tuross Head Vets golf Special Par event. This is an event unique to Tuross Vets that is based on the regular Par event, but where scores below par result in multiple plusses. It is also an event that tends to favour higher handicappers.

Winner on the day was Gayle MacAlpine with a fine score of +7 for the nine holes played. Ted Quinlan was runner up with a score of +4, with Ian Miller edging out Paul Coffey for third place on count back , both players recording a score of +2. Balls or chocolates were won by Greg Thornton, Rob Ware, Mike Birks and Blaise Madden with scores of +1, and Paul Pereira, Peter McRae, Leonie Snodgrasss, Peg Nevett, Richard Wharton and Peter Frost on square.

The Bradman award this week went to an out of form Kevin Dukes, whilst nearest the pins were won by Rob Ware on the 4th, Greg Thornton on the 6th, and by Gayle MacAlpine and Ian Miller on the 7th. Ian Manton took out the Accurate drive award on the 5th.

Vets Golf Coloured Ball Team Stableford

Tuross Head Veterans Golf on Wednesday 3 March 2021 saw a good field of 67 players register for a Coloured Ball Team Stableford event. The event was marred by the presence of a local crow that managed to “steal” 18 of the yellow coloured balls being played. Despite the loss of coloured balls scores were excellent with the winning team of Gail Page, Peter Davies, Dorothy Madden and Enid Besant-Ryan accumulating a team score of 49 points for the 9 holes played. They were followed home by John Cox, Neal Watson, Greg Smith and Kevin Dukes with a team score of 47, Chris and Ian Wratten, Ken Brown and Noel Downie with 44 on count back, and then Solveig Olsson, Tony Crook, Warren Hodder and Steve Gardner also on 44.

Minor prizes went to Ann and Bruce Ware playing with Ross Davidson and Neil Mather on 44, Steve and Teri Swanbury, Jane Eglitis and Peter McRae on 43, Ron and Sandra Hanlon together with Paul and Robin Green on 42, and finally Des Jackson, Allen Lee, David Williams and Lee Ridgway with 39. The infamous Bradman award was won this week by Ian and Annette Manton playing with Ian and Jeanette Miller. Nearest the pins went to Steve Swanbury on the 4th, David Williams on the 6th, and to Shirley Quinlan and Steve Collins on the 7th. David Williams capped off a good day with a win in the Accuracy drive competition.

Under clear morning skies a good field of 62 players registered for the Tuross Head Veteran Golfers 2 Person Ambrose event on Wednesday 24 February 2021. Winning team on the day was the pairing of Ross Davidson and Neil Mather with a net score of 30.50 for the 9 holes played. Runners up were Jeanette and Ian Miller with a score of 30.75. Other major winners were Warren Hodder and Steve Gardner on 32.25 and Steve Swanbury paired with Andrew Gordon with a score of 32.50.

Balls or chocolates went to Bruce Martin and Leonie Snodgrass with 33.0, Annette and Ian Manton on 33.25, Peter Coffey and Rob Nash with 33.5, and finally the teams of Richard Wharton and Rick Brake together with Gail and Len Rogers with scores of 34.0.

Nearest the pins went to Herb Muriwai on the 4th, Warren Hodder on the 6th, and to Gail Rogers and Ian Miller on the 7th. Ann Ware took out the Accuracy drive award.
