Vets Golf Single Stableford Event

Despite the course remaining wet following the good rains of last week, a good field of 62 players registered for the Tuross Head Veterans Golf Single Stableford event on 5 August. Winner on the day with a great score of 26 points was Steve Swanbury, beating home his good friend Peter McRae with the same score on a count back. Shirley Quinlan and Henry Anderson with 23 points each took the next 2 placings with Shirley beating home Henry for 3rd place on count back.

Minor prizes were awarded to Herb Muriwai on 22, Don Russell, Dorothy Madden and Bruce Martin on 21, Paul Green, Graham Moore, Les Johanson, Ross Hendy, Chris Wratten, Teri Swanbury and Ian Manton all with 20, and finally Stephen Crossling and Ted Quinlan beating home a host of other players with 19 points on count back.

Ian Wratten was the unfortunate recipient of this week’s infamous Bradman Award.

With a number of regular players away travelling a smaller than normal field of 52 players registered for this week’s Single Stableford event. Winner on the day was Neal Watson with 24 points, beating home on count back Des Jackson and Ted Quinlan with the same scores. Robert McKirdy was the final major prize winner on 22 points, beating home others on 22 in a count back.

Minor prizes went to Steve Gardner, Greg Bush and Paul Green with 22, Kevin Dukes and Annette Manton on 21, and finally Neil Mather, Andrew Gordon, Greg Thornton, Gayle Macalpine and Tony Crook all on 20. Noel Downie took out the Bradman award.

Under threatening skies with a low morning temperature and strong wind, fifty eight players registered for Wednesday’s Tuross Head Veterans Golf Single Stableford event. Winner on the day was Tuross Head Vets President Ian Manton returning to form with a good score of 25 points for the 9 holes played. Ian was followed home by Steve Johnston on only his third game back after a knee replacement with a score of 24, Ross Davidson on 23, and finally Richard Wharton on count back with 22.

Minor prizes went to Robert McKirdy on 22, Herb Muriwai, Greg Smith, Bruce Martin and Teri Swanbury with 21, Derek Hoare, Len Rogers, David Williams and Frank Pomfret on 20, and finally in order of count backs, Jeanette Miller, Steve Collins and Brian Smith with scores of 19.

Mike Birks clearly struggled under the prevailing conditions and was this week’s winner of the infamous Bradman award.

Despite a number of absences for grand parenting duties during school holidays, a good field of 62 players registered for the Tuross Head Wednesday Vets Golf Single Stableford event this week. Winner on the day was Greg Thornton with a fine score of 25 points. Greg beat home three players with 24 points, with the count back determining the placings as runner up Greg Smith, in 3rd Terry Lunn and the final major prize winner being Kathy Crossling.
Minor prizes went to Neil Mather and Herb Muriwai on 23, Margaret Downey, Allen Lee and Teri Swanbury with 22, Ross Hendy, Dorothy Madden, Ian Wratten and Steve Gardner on 21, and the last grouping of Leonie Snodgrass, Les Johanson, Paul Pereira and Kevin Dukes all with 20 points. John Cox won the infamous Bradman award on count back from Mike Birks.

Despite the very cool morning start and a few intermittent sprinkles during the morning, a great field of 69 players competed for the Tuross Head Vets Golf Single Stableford event on 1 July. Winner on the day was Sandra Hanlon with 24 points, beating home on count back with equally good scores Ross Macalpine, John Cox, Bruce Ware and Allen Lee, with Allen missing out on the major prize money on a second round count back. Minor prizes were awarded to Mike Birks, Herb Muriwai and David Williams on 23, Paul Green, Gayle Macalpine, Margaret Downey and Greg Bush with 22, Les Johanson, Ken Brown, Warren Hodder, Don Russell, Teri Swanbury and Richard Wharton all on 21.
Jennifer Gray must have been feeling the cold and as a result was the unfortunate winner of the Tuross Vets Bradman award this week.

A smaller field than in recent weeks registered for this week’s Tuross Head Vets golf single Stableford event. Winner on the day with a great return to form was Peter McRae with a fabulous score of 28 points for the nine holes played. Steve Swanbury edged out Robert McKirdy on count back as the runner up with both players returning excellent scores of 26. Barry Hoban took out the last of the major prizes on 24 points.

Minor prizes went to Richard Wharton and Steve Collins on 23, husband and wife Len and Gail Rogers on 22, Ann Ware and Richard Kelly with 21, Ian McManus, Margaret Downey, Stephen Crossling and Julie Barningham on 20, and in a four way count back Ken Brown and Annette Manton with 19.

Noel Downie took out this week’s Bradman award.

Despite the gloomy, overcast morning resulting in a number of late cancellations, a good field of sixty three players registered for the Tuross Head Vets Golf Wednesday single Stableford competition. Winner on the day was Ted Quinlan with a magnificent score of 28 points, a score noted by the handicapper!! Ted beat home three players on 24 points for the major prizes, count back placings being Jennifer Gray, Greg Thornton and Paul Pereira.

Minor prizes went to Mike Birks on 24, Paul Green and Kevin Dukes on 23, Ron Hanlon on 22, Leonie Snodgrass, Rob Nash, Ray Downey and Len Rogers all with 21, and the final grouping of Greg Ware, Graham Moore, Peg Nevett, Rick Brake and John Cox each with 20 points.

Des Jackson had the dubious honour of taking out this week’s Bradman award, the second such occasion in three weeks.

Despite a number of late cancellations a good field of sixty five players registered for the Tuross Head Vets Golf Wednesday single Stableford competition. Winner on the day was Graham Moore with 26 points, beating home Warren Hodder with the same score on count back. Terry Challender beat home Greg Bush into third place with 23 points, again under a count back situation.

Minor prizes went to Chris Wratten and Kevin Dukes with 22, Bruce Ware, Ross Macalpine, Ray Downey and Henry Anderson on 21, Kathy Crossling, Frank Pomfret, Ann Challender, Greg Smith, Rob Nash and Robin Green with 20, and finally Derek Hoare on 19 after a five way count back was required.

Herb Muriwai had the honour of taking out this week’s infamous Bradman award.

Sixty six players registered for Wednesday’s Tuross Head Vets Golf Single Stableford event. Again good scores prevailed with the results perhaps reflecting a little more run on the course now that it is drying out. Winner on the day was Ian Wratten with a fine score of 26 points, beating home Ann Ware on 24, on 23 points Ron Hanlon and Greg Bush.

Minor prizes went to Rick Brake, Henry Anderson, Gail Rogers, Andrew Gordon, Terry Lunn and Neal Watson with 22, Annette Manton and Frank Pomfret on 21, and finally Jeanette Miller, Steve Gardner, Shirley Quinlan, Derek Hoare and Greg Thornton all on 20 points.

The infamous Bradman award was won this week by Des Jackson.

Another near capacity field of 67 players registered for Tuross Head’s  Vets golf event on Wednesday. Fortunately rain overnight and the previous day had little effect on playing conditions.

Winner on the day was Richard Kelly with a fine score of 26 points, edging out Jennifer Gray on 25 and Shirley Quinlan and David Williams on 24. Minor prizes went to John Cox on 24, Margaret Downey on 23, Des Jackson and Les Johanson on 22, Lance Shadbolt, Ray Downey, Kevin Dukes and Gail Rogers with 21, Gayle Macalpine and Chris Wratten with 20, and finally Peg Nevett, our most senior lady player, beating home a host of other players with 19 points on count back.

The infamous Bradman award was taken out by Robin Green.
