The 2019 Classic Pairs Tournament was held at Tuross from September 3 to September 5. Teams travelled from as far away as Sale to play in the tournament. Five games of pairs were played over the three days with some excellent bowls played. The final results were not determined until the last game was complete. In fact, in the last round both of the leading sides lost their games. This meant that sides that had lost a game earlier in the tournament where able to grab the top three places and the lion’s share of the $3,300 in the prize pool.

Steve Maher and Tim Kovacs (Malua Bay) came first with 4 wins and a shots margin of plus 52. Paul Van der heuvel (Bodalla) and Keith Pickett (Narooma) finished second with 4 wins and plus 27. Chris Pollock and Shane Quinlivan(Moruya) finished strongly, defeating the previously undefeated side, to take out third place with 4 wins and plus 22. Sale visitors, Ray Kennedy and Stephen Chalmer, stumbled at the last hurdle and had to be content with fourth place with 4 wins and plus 8. The final place went to Don Cooper (Moruya) and Dave Caldwell (Huskisson) with 3 wins and a draw. Moruya’s Peter Jeffs and Jeff Rankin took the money for the best win on the last day.

A big thanks to all of the sponsors and volunteers who contributed to the success of the Tournament. A special thanks to all of the people at Club Tuross – the greenkeepers, the kitchen, the bar staff and the General manager Stephen Hodge – for all of their support. A special thanks to the members of both the Men’s and Women’s Bowling Clubs for their invaluable support with umpiring, setting up in the morning, organising morning tea and lunches, selling raffle tickets and donating raffle prizes.
